About PestCodex
PestCodex is an independent information site that helps homeowners and renters understand and solve common household pest and moisture problems: mice in the walls, cockroaches in the kitchen, silverfish in the bathroom, moths in the closet, condensation on the walls, and that musty smell you can't place.
We are not a pest control company and we don't sell treatments. Our goal is to explain what works, what doesn't, and when it is time to call a licensed professional.
How we write and check our guides
- Research first. Every guide is built on university extension publications (such as Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, UC IPM, and Texas A&M), the US EPA, the CDC, and the National Pesticide Information Center. Product marketing and pest-control sales pages are never used as evidence.
- Sources on every page. Each article lists the research it was checked against at the bottom, so you can verify any claim yourself.
- Safety over shortcuts. We follow integrated pest management (IPM): prevention, monitoring, and the least-toxic effective option first. When pesticides are mentioned, we remind you to follow the label, because the label is the law.
- No made-up numbers. If a figure can't be traced to a reliable source, it doesn't go in.
- Kept up to date. When guidance changes, we revise the article and show the updated date at the top.
